Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Review – Eddie Murphy Delivers a Stand-Out Performance!

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Review

Eddie Murphy playing the role of Alex Foley shouldn’t be new to anyone who is a big fan of comedy and action, especially when those two genres come together.

The Beverly Hills Cop movie series has been successful and garnered a fan following over the years, which only meant that many people would press play as soon as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F dropped on Netflix, and we have no doubt that’s exactly what’s happening because we’re also part of the crowd.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F lands and delivers in many ways, but the truth is, it doesn’t add much to the existing series. However, just like we’ve tuned into this new movie for Murphy, we would highly recommend doing the same because there’s plenty of laughter scattered with some well-planned action sequences, and of course, Murphy, did we mention that yet?

Comedy, Cops, and…Eddie Murphy

If you aren’t a seasoned Eddie Murphy fan, which is highly unlikely, some of his greatest performances include roles in movies like Dolemite Is My Name, Coming to America, The Nutty Professor, and Trading Places. Not only is Murphy a brilliant actor, but also a splendid comedian and both these sides to him were glaring visible in his latest movie Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, directed by Mark Molloy.

Of course, there are plenty of elements that come together to make Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F a success, but Murphy’s contribution to it will be mentioned for a long time to come because, without his portrayal of the protagonist, Axel Foley, this movie might as well had not existed.

We’re not saying that this fourth installment to the beloved franchise wasn’t up to the mark, but it simply felt like an unnecessary addition to the franchise.

From the very first scene of Netflix’s latest movie, we see the charming cop Axel, who doesn’t play by the rules and is far from serious. The opening scene of him driving around the city sets the tone for how his character will proceed in the movie, and that’s exactly how it pans out.

This was indeed one more the most predictable aspects of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, but completely and utterly fun still. We wanted more as soon as the movie began!

With Axel comes plenty of collateral damage, which is something fans of the franchise are likely aware of, but this latest movie doubles down on that aspect, and it’s truly a hoot and a half! Murphy doesn’t hold back for a second when it comes to an exaggerated performance from time to time, but that’s part of the charm and only enhances the comedic element of the movie.

An ensemble cast, a new mission that sets itself apart, lots of action, and some expected comedy, are some of the elements that sum up Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, and rightfully so. This movie isn’t unique, it won’t be nominated for the Oscars, but it’s fun and funny, and that’s exactly what it intended to do, to begin with. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F gets the job done.

Conclusion

Everyone loves a good and breezy comedy with some action sprinkled all over to unwind with at the end of the day, and that’s exactly what Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was. It will be interesting to see how it contributes to Netflix’s viewership, but one thing is for sure, Eddie Murphy has got himself a whole new lot of fans with this performance.
