What Is Clipped All About?

Clipped is the creation of Gina Welch and it’s a screen adaptation of a podcast called The Sterling Affairs which ran on ESPN 30 for 30 and was created by The Sterling Affairs. The series is about how the racist comments made by Donald Sterling shook things in the Los Angeles Clippers which he owned. This led to many consequences which affected the team.

Welch is also one of the executive producers along with Kevin Bray, Ramona Shelburne, Brad Simpson, Zanne Devine, and Nina Jacobson. Clipped premiered on June 4th on FX on Hulu and ended on July 2nd, 2024 with six episodes.

How Did Clipped Season 1 End?

The last episode of Clipped was called Keep Smiling and it was directed by Michael Blieden while Welch and Rembert Browne wrote it. We see Donald Sterling giving an interview to Anderson Cooper which distracts the players of the team. Meanwhile, Shelly is also trying to find buyers for this very team. He is eventually thrown out of the trust.

A big drama happens in the court and Shelly is allowed to sell the LA Clippers to Ballmer. Doc Rivers distances himself from the team. V. Stiviano is sued by Shelly over the duplex. She continues to work for him.

Is Clipped Season 2 Happening?

Since Clipped was made as a miniseries with limited episodes, it is highly unlikely that Clipped Season 2 will ever take place. The story also reached its conclusive ending in the finale episode with the team going into the hands of Ballmer who continues to be its owner.

But if the makers want, they can showcase what happened to the team after Sterling’s exit. This can be the main storyline of Clipped Season 2. But we don’t know if this will happen in the absence of an official confirmation.

What To Expect From It?

If Clipped Season 2 takes place, we can expect it to be picked right after the team is snatched from Sterling’s hand and bought by Ballmer. We might see how he runs the team and how the players react to it. The series has covered the podcast on which it is based.

So the second season can take from another source material. However, the series has met with strong reviews so Hulu might consider renewing it to extend the storyline. While it’s very rare, it can happen if it brings much viewership.

If the same story continues, then we can expect the same star cast to make a return. This includes Laurence Fishburne (portraying Doc Rivers), Ed O’Neill (Donald Sterling), Jacki Weaver (Shelly Sterling), Cleopatra Coleman (V. Stiviano) and Kelly AuCoin (Andy Roeser) among others. We can also expect new actors since the storyline will be set in a different timeline.

Since there is no confirmation regarding Clipped Season 2, we can only guess about its release date. The second season should also have six episodes with similar duration that will drop on FX and Hulu.

Conclusion

Clipped was a very interesting look at an event that was considered a disgrace for American sports. The openly racist rants of a rich guy led to his exit from the team which was filled with drama. This was captured beautifully in the series and was coupled with amazing acting from everyone. The concise episodes were well-written and nicely filmed.

While the ending was conclusive and showcased the fate of every character, fans are still hoping they will get to see Clipped Season 2. The chances are very low but we should be hopeful and see if the makers consider making it.
