Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist Review

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist is a crime drama series with Shaye Ogbonna serving as its creator. The series is inspired by the namesake podcast series that came out in 2020 and was hosted by Jeff Keating and Jim Roberts.

It focuses on a group of people who plan an elaborate and well-designed heist in the 1970s. It takes place on the very same night when Mohammed Ali made a return to the boxing ring. Here is the review.

An Entertaining History Lesson

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist takes a leaf from a very important page in history. Popular boxer Mohammed Ali didn’t want to be a part of the war in Vietnam. The government then punished him by taking his title of heavyweight.

He then resumed his boxing three years later and the event was a success. The series chronicles a heist that took place that night.

It has eight episodes and it was released on September 5th, 2024 on Peacock. Chicken Man (played by Kevin Hart) and Vivian Thomas (Taraji P. Henson) among others orchestrate a plan where they ram inside a party that is attended by some very big gangsters.

They end up looting over a million dollars in terms of jewelry and cash money. All these things take place just a few blocks away from the auditorium in Atlanta where Ali was fighting Jerry Quarry.

A Powerful Cast

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist also features Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, and Terrence Howard as part of that group. What makes this show different is its visual tone. It is a strong reminder of the blacksploitation flicks that were coming out in the 1970s.

The series has the same flavor of visuals and it’s a treat to watch. There is Kevin Hart so you can obviously expect the show to be funny.

The writing is as stylish as the visuals and the costumes of the actors. The build-up towards the main event is the crux of most of the show. Any lesser creator would have turned it into a bore. But Ogbonna makes sure that Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist keeps us hooked. The series is also important viewing because it’s about the black community and it features a nearly all-black cast.

Atlanta is their city and the story belongs to them. We see Chicken Man, the protagonist, trying really hard to change his life. Through the heist, we see the socio-economic situation of all the characters. They are pushed to the wall and are taking a big risk that could cost their lives.

Conclusion

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist is a visually stunning treat of a show. It consists of some very fine acting talent who outshine the frame and the material. It has elements of dark humor, drama as well as some action. All these things are in balance and make Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist a must-watch. You can enjoy it on Peacock.
