5 Movies and Shows You Need to Watch Before Agatha All Along

Movies and Shows You Need to Watch Before Agatha All Along

Agatha All Along is Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next mini-series, created by Jac Schaeffer (Timer, WandaVision), starring Kathryn Hahn as the lead as she reprises her role as Agatha Harkness. Joining Hahn in this series are Sasheer Zamata, Joe Locke, Maria Dizzia, Aubrey Plaza, Patti LuPone, Debra Jo Rupp, and Okwui Okpokwasili amongst others.

Marvel has had some success when it comes to series, however, it has largely been a miss among fans who haven’t been too impressed with the franchise, with Loki and WandaVision being the exception.

Nevertheless, the expectations are high for Agatha All Along, but before it releases on Disney+, here’s a list of movies and shows we recommend watching because, in Marvel, context is everything!

1. WandaVision

Created by none other than Jac Schaeffer, WandaVision had to be at the top of our list, because this is where Agatha Harkness was introduced. This series premiered on Disney+ back in 2021 and has been one of Marvel’s more successful projects in recent years.

It boasts an impressive cast including Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Kathryn Hahn, Kat Dennings, Evan Peters, and Randall Park.

We would recommend watching the entire series while keeping your attention on the last two episodes to learn more about Agatha’s character, and Hahn’s portrayal of her. In some ways, it is also important to understand more about Wanda, to understand Agatha.

While we have a few more additions to the list, WandaVision is the most important one!

2. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Following WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released in 2022 and was directed by the legendary Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, The Evil Dead). Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Cumberbatch were the two main cast members of this movie as it gave a deeper looker into the madness of the multiverse, and also Wanda.

The more you know about Wanda, the Darkhold, and dark magic, the easier Agatha All Along will be to follow. So far, there has been no indication of Olsen appearing in the upcoming series, but after Deadpool & Wolverine, we are convinced any and every cameo is possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

3. Doctor Strange

In addition to watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it is also important to take a look at the first Doctor Strange movie which was released in 2016, and directed by Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone, The Exorcism of Emily Rose). This particular movie does plenty for the world of mystic arts, and the more you know, the better your experience will be while watching Agatha All Along.

Doctor Strange introduces Masters of the Mystic Arts and of course, also has brilliant performances from Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Mads Mikkelsen. If you are keen on going in order, we recommend watching this movie before the aforementioned titles.

4. Loki

Along with WandaVision, 2021 also witnessed the release of the Loki series, making it a big year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, there aren’t many connections between Loki and Wanda, or Agatha, but this series is a key point when it comes to the concept of multiverse, a pillar of the MCU for the last few years.

Agatha All Along is definitely more about dark magic than the multiverse, but since it is part of the MCU, anything is possible. Plus, Loki Seasons 1 and 2 are just brilliant additions to your watchlist, with Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson being an expected but much-needed duo to the franchise.

5. The Thor Trilogy

If you are one of the OG fans of the MCU, you know, the ones who were around before Avengers: Endgame, chances are you have already watched Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok because if not, these three movies should be on your watchlist as soon as possible!

While these aren’t the best movies in the franchise, they showcase Asgard and Asgardians, who have connections to magic and power for way longer than Agatha did.

Thor: Ragnarok is definitely the funniest and most successful of the trilogy, but if you want to learn more about Thor, Odin, and even Loki, you will have to watch the 2011 movie starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, and Anthony Hopkins.

Conclusion

We are looking forward to watching Agatha All Along, which starts on September 18, 2024, and will be available to stream on Disney+. With less than a month to go, you now have a list to binge before Agatha spooks all fans!
