Presumed Innocent Episodes 1 & 2 Review

Presumed Innocent has been one of the most-awaited series on Apple TV+ and rightfully so. The streaming platform released teasers for this series a while ago, and since then, the anticipation has been at an all-time high, especially considering the star of Presumed Innocent – Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal is best known for his work in Hollywood, in movies like Brokeback Mountain, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Love & Other Drugs amongst many other critically acclaimed titles.

It has been refreshing watching Gyllenhaal in Presumed Innocent, and frankly, as far as the first two episodes go, he has carried the series. In this review, we will talk a little more about Presumed Innocent Episodes 1 & 2, and what worked versus what didn’t work. There will be some spoilers ahead, so make sure you tread lightly!

Rusty Finds Himself Isolated from All Sides

Presumed Innocent revolves around the brutal murder of Carolyn Polhemus, who worked with Rusty Sabich. Rusty is a prosecutor, the best in his field, and also the protagonist of this series. As soon as Rusty finds out about Carolyn’s murder, he is the first to hop on the case and is also assigned as lead prosecutor.

However, it is later revealed that there is a major conflict of interest because Rusty and Carolyn were previously involved in an intimidate affair. The first episode of Presumed Innocent primarily sheds light on Rusty and his life, with a beautiful wife and two children.

However, this episode also reveals that his wife, Barbara has been aware of the affair, which almost broke their marriage a year ago. As far as the series goes, the first episode moves smoothly, the viewers aren’t overwhelmed with information, and the narrative is easy to follow for the most part.

Admittedly, at first, Presumed Innocent felt a little ordinary, however, as the series picked up its pace in the second episode, things got interesting and we can guarantee that you will find yourself glued to the screen, eyes wide, wondering what’s going to happen next.

The plot thickens when it is revealed that Carolyn was pregnant when she was murdered and quickly, Rusty becomes a suspect in the case. It also doesn’t help that the opposition isn’t too fond of him. Rusty is isolated once his affair is known. His family, best friend, co-workers, everyone isolates him.

Eventually, Rusty is arrested in Presumed Innocent Episode 2 and you might feel like things are moving too quickly, but the ending of the episode assures viewers that there’s plenty in store, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.
