What is the Plot of Queenie?

The series is based on the novel of the same name by Candice Carty-Williams. Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman residing in south London, finds herself caught between two cultures and struggling to fit in. Following a turbulent breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Queenie seeks solace in unhealthy outlets and comes to realize she must confront her past in order to move forward.

As Queenie recognizes her potential mental health struggles, she questions if she may be experiencing a quarter-life crisis and ponders whether she needs guidance or simply a carefree break from responsibilities. There are no simple solutions, but viewers are sure to find humor and connections as they follow Queenie’s journey.

The Cast of Queenie

The show includes Dionne Brown, a theatre star and relative TV newcomer, in the lead role, with Jon Pointing from Plebs as her long-time boyfriend. Samuel Adewunmi from BBC’s You Don’t Know Me stars as Frank and singer Bellah makes her screen debut as Kyazike, Queenie’s oldest friend.

Additionally, Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones), Tilly Keeper, (You), Llewella Gideon (Absolutely Fabulous), and Michelle Greenidge (After Life) are also joining the cast of Queenie.

When and Where Can You Watch Queenie?

The show is a part of the Onyx Collective, a Disney brand dedicated to promoting projects made by individuals from marginalized communities. Filming started in April 2023 in South London. All eight episodes will be available for streaming on Hulu starting on 7 June 2024, so make sure your subscription to the streaming platform is up to date!
