Selling Sunset has been a very interesting and successful series in the realm of reality television. Since its premiere in 2019, the series has managed to have a lot of fans. This led to Netflix issuing many seasons.
All of them follow the same format but bring out something new each time. Selling Sunset Season 8 was released on September 6th, 2024, and here is the review.
Same Mean People
Adam DiVello is the creator of Selling Sunset and it’s about the brokerage company Oppenheim. The focus is on its agents as they go to work and live their lives. Just like all the reality shows, this one also gives a peek into their personal world.
Season 8 is no different and it feels like drinking the same wine in the same bottle. Channels and streamers have been churning out multiple seasons of reality shows. It’s probably because of how successful they are and are easy to produce.
That’s the only reason why someone would have commissioned Selling Sunset Season 8. We are again thrown into the world of Oppenheim which only employees mean people it seems. It’s so bad that it can’t even qualify as a guilty pleasure. Seeing men and women trying to sell houses in upmarket and posh localities has its fun element. But that fun bit drops on its face very quickly.
A Redundant Season
Selling Sunset should have ended right after its initial seasons. Because the makers have been stretching it and beating it for too long. The editing is nice and the camerawork is also impressive. These are the things one says when the overall quality is bad.
There is no good thing besides the technical achievements. Selling Sunset’s soundtrack has been disappointing for a while. Season 8 continues that tradition to spoil your brain.
There are moments filled with cringe and some drama sprinkled across 11 episodes. But they are not enough to engage the viewers. Jason Oppenheim continues to be his usual and normal self this season also. But his definition of normal is quite different. It’s hard to like a show that is designed only to cash in on the success of its franchise.
There is clearly nothing new this show has to offer. We hope that Netflix puts its money and effort into good-quality shows and movies in the future. Season 8 is barely watchable. The initial seasons were much better and the massive dip in the overall quality is quite worrying.
Conclusion
People who have enjoyed the show might also have a hard time trying to figure out the events in Selling Sunset Season 8. We see the same set of participants who feel dead from within. Soon, the viewers also reciprocate that exact kind of feeling.
Overall, the eighth season is totally avoidable. If you have some time to kill, then re-watch something you already like. The series will continue to have more seasons in the future because of its viewership.
