The Imaginary Review

Directed by Yoshiyuki Momose and written by Yoshiaki Nishimura, The Imaginary, which is now available to stream on Netflix, is an ode to everyone’s childhood, and one that shouldn’t be skipped out on.

The movie is based on A.F. Harrold’s 2014 children’s book and has already garnered plenty of attention worldwide, but its Netflix premiere will make it accessible to a larger audience and will continue to soar.

The Imaginary follows its lead protagonist Amanda, and her imaginary friend, Rudger, and of course, the theme and title go hand in hand. If you are a fan of animated movies, then Momose’s latest project deserves to be at the top of your watchlist, especially with the weekend approaching.

Who wouldn’t want to dive straight into a visual treat?

The Imaginary Lures Viewers with Stunning Animation

There’s no denying that when it comes to an animated movie or series, the one thing that absolutely has to stand out and succeed is the animation.

Now, while that might be a given, not every title has found success in this department, and it is especially difficult with the rise of the genre and big names like Studio Ghibli, Pixar Animation Studios, and Walt Disney Animation Studios a part of the mix.

However, The Imaginary has managed to deliver a standout performance, and we were immediately blown away by the stunning animation, the first element that will captivate any viewer.

The storytelling, the dialogues, and of course, Amanda and Rudger, and some of the elements at the start of the movie will make you want to stay glued to the screen.

The Imaginary pays equal attention to the story, emotions, characters, and animation throughout the entire runtime, which leaves no room for boredom. There is no dull moment in this animated movie, and something that really stood out to us was the fact that it never tries too hard.

The Imaginary is as original as it gets when compared to bigger animation studios and their movies, and this will create a soft spot for the viewers as they stream it.

A homage to childhood and the crazy yet creative imaginations that minds hold is the best way to describe The Imaginary. It doesn’t hold back when it comes to diving deep into the minds of children, and of course, Rudger is the star of the movie.

We won’t spoil this experience for you with too many plot details, because it truly is one of a kind.
