What Is The Old Man All About?

The Old Man is an adaptation of the eponymous novel penned by Thomas Perry which was released in 2017. Created by Robert Levine and Jonathan E. Steinberg, the series focuses on Dan Chase, who used to work for the CIA and also worked in Afghanistan. Someone breaks into his house and Chase ends up killing him. After this, Chase runs away and the same agency starts chasing him.

Levine and Steinberg have also executive produced the series with David Schiff, Jeff Bridges, Dan Shotz, Jon Watts, and Warren Littlefield while Judd Rea is the producer. The Old Man premiered on June 16th, 2022 on FX.

How Did The First Season End?

The final episode of The Old Man was released on July 21st, 2022. A deal takes place between Faraz Hamzad with the American intelligence. Hamzad is still after Chase because he eloped with his wife.

After the CIA is unable to capture Chase, they divert to a different mission. Towards the end, we realize that Emily Chase is actually the daughter of Faraz Hamzad. She sees him after so long with Harper and Chase go off. Both are being looked at by the agencies.

Is The Old Man Season 2 Happening?

FX commissioned The Old Man Season 2 right after the first season had its premiere. The first season was well received and the shocking ending left everyone baffled. It also garnered decent viewership for the channel to give a go-ahead to its follow-up season.

On July 10th, 2024, FX dropped a 42-second-long teaser of The Old Man Season 2. With a tagline that reads, ‘Vengeance never old’, the video features Dan and Harold as they are on the run. It showcases several shootout scenes and moments of action.

The video ends with an amazing shot of Chase shooting on the screen with a helicopter hovering over him in the background. Without giving away any plot details, the teaser manages to tease and generate interest in viewers.

The storyline will mainly focus on Chase and Harold Harper going out to rescue Chase’s daughter who was abducted in Afghanistan. The makers have mentioned that, unlike the first season, The Old Man Season 2 will have more scenes and moments of Chase and Harold together.

Emily might go through some changes after realizing who her real father is. We might see some arc in the character in the upcoming season.

Who Will Be In The Cast?

Jeff Bridges is once again portraying Dan Chase in The Old Man Season 2 while John Lithgow will be Harold Harper; Alia Shawkat is playing Angela Adams/Emily Chase, the daughter of Chase.

Other actors who are expected to return are E. J. Bonilla (Raymond Waters), Leem Lubany (young Belour Hamzad), Gbenga Akinnagbe (Julian Carson), and Amy Brenneman (Zoe McDonald) among others.

Do We Have A Release Date?

The first two episodes of The Old Man Season 2 will premiere on September 12th, 2024 on FX at 10 pm ET. The second might also have seven episodes with a similar duration.


The Old Man was a gripping show based on an impressive book. Headed by Jeff Bridges, the series delivers many punches and knocks down the viewers with its twist and drama. All the performances are on mark and the show is an example of really good writing and fine direction.
