The Perfect Couple Review: Nicole Kidman Shines in Netflix’s Limited Series

The Perfect Couple Review

We’re excited to dive into The Perfect Couple, the highly anticipated Netflix limited series from creator Jenna Lamia and acclaimed director Susanne Bier. Now streaming, this gripping drama boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Nicole Kidman, Eve Hewson, Ishaan Khatter, Meghann Fahy, Liev Schreiber, and Dakota Fanning, who bring to life a complex web of characters that have fueled the buzz surrounding this 2024 release.

Unlike other series available on the streaming platform, The Perfect Couple has only 6 episodes, which makes it a quick watch for your mid-week screen cravings. In this review, we will explore different elements of the series, which will help you decide whether to not it deserves a spot on your watchlist.

A Unique Ensemble of Characters and Secrets

Any movie or series set around a wedding is almost always a hit, especially when it comes to the entertainment factor, so The Perfect Couple is off to a lovely start, and truly breezy because of the backdrop, as Nicole Kidman looks beyond radiant on our Netflix screen, during a rehearsal dinner while posing with her family for a photograph.

It doesn’t take long for Episode 1 to switch from a group of pretentious rich folks enjoying champagne to an eerie atmosphere with a loud scream. Just like that, the main narrative has been set into motion, and we have also been given a glimpse at the characters who will each play a unique and important role in this series.

There’s a dead body, a crime scene, and the investigation begins. Every character has a different story to tell and so far, The Perfect Couple appears to be a classic whodunit, but there’s more to it than what might appear on the surface, and that works brilliantly in favor of the series.

If there’s one warning we can give you as you buckle in to stream these episodes – be prepared for the twists and turns because there’s plenty.

Imagine White Lotus meets Knives Out, and you’ll get a glimpse into the intricate web of secrets and lies that defines The Perfect Couple. But as the façade of this ridiculously extravagent gathering begins to crumble, the true extent of the family’s hidden agendas and their ulterior motives comes to light, turning everyone into a suspect in a thrilling game of whodunit.

Normally when it comes to dysfunctional families, things at least appear normal on the surface, but that isn’t the case with the Winburys. There’s almost nothing normal about this family.

Nicole Kidman’s masterful portrayal of Greer is a standout amidst the complex tapestry of characters in the series. She is sharp with a captivating presence, and cannot be missed out on. This isn’t her first performance on Netflix, and it certainly won’t be the last, because her performance will haunt your thoughts long after the credits roll.

While The Perfect Couple’s six episodes are expertly crafted to keep us on the edge of our seats, there are moments where the abundance of plot twists feels a little overwhelming.

This raises the question: can a suspense drama have too many twists for its own good? Nevertheless, this minor drawback – which may even be a virtue for some viewers – doesn’t detract from the series’ addictive nature. Ultimately, it’s the ensemble’s unique dynamic that makes the series so compelling, and we can look past any flaws.

Conclusion

Grab your laptop, firestick, or any device you watch Netflix on, kickback and relax with a choice of your favorite drink, and witness the sun go down as you immerse yourself in The Perfect Couple. We know this is a limited series, but we do hope there’s another season!
