Do We Have A Release Date?

The Strangers: Chapter 1 is slated to be released theatrically across the globe on May 17, 2024. The studio has also two more planned sequels in the franchise titled The Strangers: Chapter 2 and The Strangers: Chapter 3. Both these films are also expected to be released in the latter half of 2024.

Do We Have A Trailer?

Luckily, yes the makers have dropped the official trailer of the film. The trailer has a runtime of two minutes and 25 seconds and it’s more than enough to send chills down everyone’s spine who has watched it.

It starts off on a very soft and romantic note as the couple are doing their tour in the country. They are shown stopping at an Airbnb house in a remote location. Things go awry from the moment two identical-looking kids show up at the doorstep.

In the follow-up scene, we see the couple trying to get cozy but are disturbed by a doorknock. They open the door and are asked about a random person.

This is the staple scene of the franchise. The couple is then attacked by three masked people inside the house. The trailer concludes with a montage of many interesting shots from the film. The tagline reads, ‘This May witness how the strangers became the strangers.’

The trailer concludes with a scene where both of them are tied to a chair and Maya asks them, ‘Why are you doing this to us?’. In response, one of the masked girls says, ‘Because you are here.’ This scene has echoes of the first film which had a similar sort of sequence where the victim asks the same question.

Overall the trailer is well edited and generates excitement. Apart from the trailer, the makers have also dropped several clips from the film called Nail in Hand and Knock Knock.

Conclusion

The first film in the franchise was The Strangers which was released in the year 2008. It was directed by Bryan Bertino and followed a couple being terrorized by a group of masked people at their vacation home. Bertino, who also wrote the film, combined two real-life incidents into what eventually became The Strangers.

This was the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders that were done from the orders of Charles Manson in August 1969. Another one was the real-life break-ins that took place in the neighborhood of where Bertino lived as a child. Upon release, several journalists drew parallels from the 1981 Keddie murders which the director has denied.

The Strangers turned out to be a critical and commercial success and enjoyed a cult status. The film gave a different take to the slasher genre which had been done to death by sequels. The success of this film pumped a new lease of life to the genre.

It was followed by its sequel titled The Strangers: Prey at Night which was released ten years after the first film. Directed by Johannes Roberts, the film had a different star cast but a similar plot involving a home invasion by masked people. Despite getting mixed reviews from critics, it ended up becoming a box-office success. The new addition of humor was well-received by many.

So The Strangers: Chapter 1 has a strong legacy of films behind it. So far, we are really hopeful that it will be able to deliver all the scares and thrills just like the previous ones.
