Philip Nathaniel Wang Sin Goi is a 34-year-old British comedian and comedy writer, who is more popularly known as Phil Wang. In 2021, Wang took over the stage at The London Palladium to perform Phil Wang: Philly Philly Wang Wang, which is also available on Netflix. Once again, Wang has taken the stage for a stand-up special which has found its home on the popular streaming platform.
Wang talks and jokes about anything and everything under the sun, he is one of the comedians with the most range when it comes to his material, and sometimes it works in his favor, other times, not so much. Phil Wang Lights the Stage of Fire!
Phil Wang: Wang in There, Baby! is off to a unique start before the applause pours in for the comedian, as Phil lights a few candles before his performance. He barely even introduces himself and dives straight into a joke about the main difference between white people and Chinese people. Wang earns a laugh from the audience, and this sets the momentum for the rest of his set.
His first joke is a rice joke, more specifically how white people are scared to reheat it. Wang’s content is almost always relatable for several people from all across the globe, so whichever part of the world you might be watching his stand-up special from, you will find yourself entertained and invested in what’s to come next.
Wang briefly also talks about his recent trip to Egypt with an all-white crew, and how “those men had diarrhea every day.” The best of his content that earns him the biggest laughs are the times he speaks from experience, and you will find more than enough of that in this stand-up special, making it a hilarious journey for the most part.
Being British and Chinese are both important parts of Wang’s identity and his set of jokes, and it is evident from his material in several of his comedy sets, but you won’t find us complaining. His worldliness brings a touch of sophistication, knowledge, and so many great jokes which adds to his existing sense of humor, it really is a bonus.
Conclusion
Phil Wang: Wang in There, Baby! lasted for just over an hour, and while the majority of it was funny and garnered plenty of laughs from the audience, and will from the viewers at home, there were parts where it felt a little dull. Despite that, Wang’s comedy special deserves a spot on your watchlist!
