Andor, or Star Wars: Andor, is an American television series. The science fiction series is Tony Gilroy and is centered around the titular character named Cassian Andor. It is a part of the popular Star Wars universe and generated a lot of buzz after its release. But it’s been more than a year since the first season dropped.

What Is Andor All About?

Andor is a part of the successful, popular, and ever-expanding Star Wars franchise. It is a spin-off of the 2016 film Rogue One which itself was a prequel to the first Star Wars film by George Lucas that was released in the year 1977.

The main character of Andor is Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) who was a thief but has now turned into a rebel spy by joining hands with the Rebellion. The exact timeline of the story falls around both Rogue One and Star Wars: A New Hope. It starts off five years prior to both films and is set in the backdrop of the Rebel Alliance that was formed to tackle the Galactic Empire.

The first season premiered on September 21st, 2022 and it consisted of 12 episodes with a duration ranging somewhere around 38 to 57 minutes. The initial three episodes dropped on Disney+, followed by the weekly release of the rest of the episodes. The finale took place on November 23rd, 2022.

The final episode of Andor is called Rix Road and it follows Cassian returning to Ferrix to attend the funeral of Maarva Andor (Fiona Shaw). There, he finds out about how Bix was imprisoned. Dedra Meero joins hands with Garrison who is an Imperial in the locality to hold Andor captive so that they can question him for the Axis.

Meanwhile, Luthen is planning to murder Cassian through an ambush in Imperial. In this act, he expects the help of people like Vel and Cinta. The motivation behind this plan is to end him before he reveals any secrets. Later on, the ISB stops the attack from Kreegyr but no prisoners are left.

Around the same time, Leida, who is Mothma’s young daughter is briefed to Davo Sculdun’s ward. At the funeral of Maarva, her recording is displayed by B2EMO who tries to evoke the crowd to rally against the Empire but it ends up creating a situation of riot. Cassian goes to save Bix from any incoming attack.

During a meeting, Cassian tries to convince them to shift Bix to a safe place far away from Ferrix. We also see the return of Luthen on the ship and Cassian ends up giving him two choices: Kill Cassian or take him in. Towards the end, we see a congregation of the droids assembling the parts from 5 prisoners onto the Death Star.

Is Andor Season 2 Happening?

The makers had already planned a second season of Andor which went on the floor in September 2022 around the same time as the first was airing. However, the shooting was stopped in 2023 due to the writer’s and actor’s strike in Hollywood.

It finally completed the shooting in February 2024. The second season will conclude the series on a high note and will lead to the events and storyline of Rogue One.

Andor Season 2 will have 12 episodes. All the episodes will be helmed by names like Janus Metz, Ariel Kleiman, and Alonso Ruizpalacios. Tony Gilroy along with the team of Beau Willimon, Tom Bissell, and Dan Gilroy have written the second season as well.

When it comes to a release date, the second season of the series was expected to premiere in August 2024. However, the delays due to the Hollywood strike have pushed the release date. As of now, there is no official confirmation. So it is expected that the series will drop sometime in the year 2025.

Diego Luna will be returning as the titular Cassian Andor in the second season. Apart from him, we can also expect to see names like Stellan Skarsgård (Luthen Rael), Denise Gough (Dedra Meero), Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma), Kyle Soller (Syril Karn), Alex Ferns (Sergeant Linus Mosk), Adria Arjona (Bix Caleen), Faye Marsay (Vel Sartha), Varada Sethu (Cinta Kaz), Anton Lesser (Major Partagaz) and Dave Chapman (B2EMO) as well Doc Brown (Lieutenant Supervisor Blevin) among others. Besides them, there might be some new faces as well since the story will reach the timeline of Rogue One.
