Franklin is adapted from A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America which is a book by Stacy Schiff and was released in 2005. It focuses on Benjamin Franklin (played by Michael Douglas) as he moved base to France to make his diplomatic efforts to keep France as an ally to support America in the Revolutionary War.

Franklin spent around eight years in the country that was headed by Louis XVI whom he tried to convince through various means. The series is directed by Tim Van Patten while Howard Korder and Kirk Ellis are the writers. They are also the executive producers along with Douglas, Richard Plepler, Tony Krantz, and Mark Mostyn. Franklin premiered on April 12th, 2024.
