Netflix recently has been home to several stand-up comedy specials, ranging from Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, to Taylor Tomlinson: Quarter-Life Crisis, and Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife amongst several others. The newest addition on Netflix is Fern Brady: Autistic Bikini Queen, and there’s plenty to look forward to when it comes to this stand-up comedy special.

Fern Brady has often branded herself as two things: Scottish and Autistic, and in her recent stand-up special which was filmed in Bristol, Brady owns up to both those things in a hilarious manner. In this review, we will talk more about Netflix’s latest addition, Fern Brady: Autistic Bikini Queen, which is now available on the streaming platform.

Fern Brady’s Personality Shines Through in Stand-Up Special

All the way from Scotland, Fern Brady has arrived in Bristol to film her latest stand-up comedy special with Netflix, Fern Brady: Autistic Bikini Queen. There’s something excitingly unique about Fern Brady that simply wants you to be friends with her.

In this special, Brady’s personality shines through time and again, and she presents herself as a warm yet edgy comedian, and also briefly talks about her autism and how life is being Scottish in a place like England.

Off late, most comedians have taken the dark humor route when it comes to stand-up comedy, and while Brady throws in the odd dark joke during her 57-minute special, most of her performance remains anecdotal, and the audience loves it.

Brady talks about life, her experiences in England, and of course, a little bit about being autistic, even though she makes it abundantly clear that her entire stand-up will not be about her being autistic, despite what the title may suggest. Yes, Brady also acknowledges the odd title of her Netflix special. It isn’t often that the words autistic and bikini are put in the same sentence, but Brady can do just about anything, and everyone will love it.

However, here’s the catch. Brady might be a little fresh to Netflix, but she’s no stranger to comedy and has often delivered some of the funniest performances which could easily bring her in the same league as some of the most famous comedians. This is why, Fern Brady: Autistic Bikini Queen isn’t our favorite work of Brady, despite the jokes that landed perfectly now and then.

Brady is one of the more unique performers, and has created her brand over the years, building it block by block, and in comparison to all her previous work, Fern Brady: Autistic Bikini Queen simply felt a little flat. Something was missing that simply took the wow factor away from Brady this time around, but that doesn’t mean the special and Brady didn’t have its great moments.

Conclusion

Fern Brady knows how to command a stage with her quirky self that several people know, love, and are a fan of, which is why we would recommend watching Fern Brady: Autistic Bikini Queen, however, make sure you don’t go into it with your expectations set too high.
