Frankly Speaking Episode 8 Review: Is There Trouble in Paradise?

Frankly Speaking Episode 8 Review

Song Ki-baek and On Woo-ju finally had their first kiss in Frankly Speaking Episode 7, which could have been the happy ending for the two, but that clearly isn’t the case when it comes to K-dramas. There is no fun, and true love unless there are complications in the way, and that’s exactly what the latest episode, aka Episode 8 is all about.

The curiosity about what’s going to happen next between Ki-baek and Woo-ju has been at an all-time high since the previous episode, and there’s plenty to look forward to in Frankly Speaking Episode 8. In this review, we will dive a little deeper into what worked versus what didn’t work when it comes to this particular episode, so make sure you stick around!

Kim Jung-heon Creates Some Trouble for On Woo-ju and Song Ki-baek

As a K-drama, Frankly Speaking does a great job when it comes to being a slow-burn romance, which elevates the quality and storyline with each episode. In Frankly Speaking Episode 8, we see the brief yet awkward aftermath of the kiss between Song Ki-baek and On Woo-ju. After a tender kiss, the two are more awkward than ever as they decide to head back to their home, without much of a conversation.

This lack of conversation makes it more than obvious that things will continue to be cute yet awkward between the two protagonists for the rest of the episode, and that’s exactly what happens. Undoubtedly, Frankly Speaking Episode 8 also tries to introduce and pay attention to a few other subplots, but the focus remains on Woo-ju and Ki-baek, and everyone simply wants to see more of them.

During the entire episode, there is no label on the two, despite their kiss and a few sweet moments scattered over the episode, but all of that seems to hint towards the end of the episode, which has a misunderstanding as a cliffhanger, because where else will the drama come from?

The love triangle has been a huge part of Frankly Speaking so far, and Episode 8 is no different. Despite the little hand-holding, cute gestures and much more, Woo-ju and Ki-baek’s relationship doesn’t have a name yet, and just when Ki-baek decides to take things further, he walks into Woo-ju and her ex, Jung-heon, embracing one another.

Of course, Ki-baek is missing the context because in reality Woo-ju simply thanks Jung-heon for the closure, but Ki-baek looks more than upset about the sight in front of him, and this is bound to be one of the driving subplots in the coming episodes. There will definitely be more drama, more romance, and a lot more of Ki-baek and Woo-ju in Frankly Speaking!

More often than not, Frankly Speaking feels like a warm hug or a hot bowl of some comforting ramen, and we would highly recommend streaming this series on Netflix if you haven’t already! Keep a lookout for our review of the next episodes.
