Love Next Door Episode 3 Review
The weekend is finally here, which also means new episodes of Netflix’s latest K-drama and your next binge, Love Next Door. So far, we have witnessed Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo’s journey begin as they clash in the most unique ways possible.
Once childhood frenemies and next-door neighbors must now navigate being in each other’s space after Seok-ryu uprooted her life and decided to start from scratch as she found her way back home to Korea.
The first two episodes of Love Next Door had the right amount of entertainment, friendship, drama, and just a sprinkle of romance to get that perfect K-drama feel, and we are buckled in for what’s next.
In this article, you will find our review of Love Next Door Episode 3, and yes, you are in luck because this episode is longer than the rest, so make sure you stick around!
Choi Seung-hyo’s Dark Past Unveiled
Flashbacks are paramount in Love Next Door because they give viewers a glimpse into the relationship between Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo, and how it all started.
Episode 3 begins with a flashback of Seung-hyo’s high school coach giving him a pep talk right before his swimming tournament, which his parents never made it to. However, if there’s one person who did make it with a sigh cheering him on, was Seok-ryu.
Meanwhile, back in the present, Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo are still adjusting to having their windows next to each other, and her screams are more than enough for him to give her a spoiler about the movie she was watching (even though he might have tricked her).
Their bickering with underlying tension might just be our favorite part of Love Next Door, and there’s plenty more in this episode.
Episode 3 also highlights the turbulent relationship in the Choi household as we witness the coldness between Seung-hyo and his parents during breakfast, which also connects to the flashback. This episode, much like the previous, flows seamlessly together, and makes for an entertaining and enthralling watch!
While Seung-hyo is busy at work, Seok-ryu is getting used to a life of unemployment, and she even has a schedule for it. There are many things we love about this series so far, but if there’s one that particularly stands out is the fact that Love Next Door doesn’t rely heavily on romance, at least not right now, and this works in favor of the narrative.
This doesn’t mean that viewers won’t occasionally get to see Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo share the screen together in Love Next Door Episode 3, because there’s plenty of that, and one moment that particularly stands out is when they both visit their old school, bringing up old memories, but Seok-ryu is also caught up in what her life used to be only a few weeks ago.
There are several subplots when it comes to this series, some of which have been around since the first episode, others that sprout up for a moment or two, but as we mentioned earlier, it flows seamlessly the whole time.
Seok-ryu also gets a call for a job offer, where she explains a small career gap of one year, there’s still a question mark when it comes to her story, but we will learn about it as the series moves along.
Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu’s pasts are deeply connected to one other, including a devasting accident Seung-hyo was involved in, which ruined his swimming career. Despite spending time apart, the two now find each other intertwined once again, and while it is taking some getting used to, the spark is undeniable!
Conclusion
By the end of Love Next Door Episode 3, Seung-hyo teaches Seok-ryu how to float on water, and his feelings for her, at least back in school, are now clear. We can’t wait to find out what’s next for this duo, so make sure you tag along as we share reviews and previews of the series every week!
