The series has already covered almost all the major portions of the source material. Plus, the war coming to an end and many character deaths do not warrant another season. A lack of confirmation from the makers on the same further cement that they will not return for another season.

What To Expect From It?

If Shōgun Season 2 happens, it should pick from the point of the first season’s ending. It can focus on Toranaga as he tries to piece his life together after the war has ended. Blackthorne, who is a very prominent character in the series, might get more space in the second season given the events of the last episode. The Battle of Sekigahara was mentioned in the final episode so the upcoming season can dig a bit deeper into this historical event that affected the fate of Japan.

The series can touch upon the subplots of the other characters and expand on that. FX and the makers can also take any other book also in the same space and adapt it for a second season. They might connect the tone and the location of the story and tell a completely different story set in a different timeline of some Kingdom in Japan.

Who Will Be In The Cast?

Shōgun Season 2 will have all the major characters from the first season that survived. This includes Yoshii Toranaga (played by Hiroyuki Sanada), John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and Kashigi Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano) among others. Mariko’s death was a very impactful moment in the series hence that character might only return in flashback sequences in the followup season.

We might also see a set of new actors in the future season playing different characters. There might be a few surprise entries also in the cast in the next season.
