What Is Clipped All About?

Clipped is the creation of Gina Welch and is adapted from a podcast called The Sterling Affairs which was created by Ramona Shelburne for ESPN 30 for 30. The series focuses on how the racist remarks made by Donald Sterling (played by Ed O’Neill) led to the slow demise of the Los Angeles Clippers. Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) who was the coach, is also a pivotal character in the story.

The executive producers of the show include Welch, Ramona Shelburne, Kevin Bray, Nina Jacobson, Zanne Devine, and Brad Simpson. Clipped premiered on June 4th, 2024.

What Happened In The Previous Episode?

Clipped Episode 4 was called Winning Ugly and it was released on June 18th, 2024. Kevin Bray helmed the episode while Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm wrote it. In 1992, Doc sensed discrimination after the riots in Los Angeles.

The situation makes him want to associate with Donald Sterling and play with him. The story then moves to 2004 where we see V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman) struggling with small jobs and trying to get a break.

The story goes to 2006 and Donald and Shelly are together. Shelly is also involved in taking legal actions against Alexander with whom Donald apparently had an affair. The episode jumps to 2008 and we see the story and situation of Elgin Baylor (Clifton Davi) who has been cut off from Clippers as GM with whom he worked for over two decades.

Subsequently, he plans to sue the NBA for discriminating against him over his race. However, the lawsuit was shut in no time. Doc Rivers is aware of all this. Overall, the episode was a throwback to all the major characters. We see who they were before they made it big and we sneak into their true self during the struggle.

What To Expect From Clipped Episode 5?

Clipped Episode 5 is named The Best Words and it’s directed by Francesca Gregorini while Gina Welch herself has written it. The episode will pick from the last episode and we will see the situation Doc is in.

He might also plan to, just like Elgin, decide to sue the organization for discrimination. We will also see the struggles of V as she will have some explanation to be given to Barbara Walters. The prior episode had shown how much she struggled earlier and did odd jobs.

Meanwhile, Doc continues to have a hard time as he does the tasks of a lot of people. The repercussions of Donald’s outburst will have repercussions for the whole of Sterlings. As we are growing closer to the end of the Los Angeles Clippers, we will see more outbursts and emotional scenes taking place.

Clipped Episode 5 is just a step away from the finale and will reveal several more dramatic details about the whole event. The makers have taken the liberty of changing small details of certain incidents. This shall continue in the upcoming and final episodes of the show to make them more engaging.
