This is triggered after a phone call received anonymously. a seasoned veteran and the other early in her career, clash on an old murder case after an anonymous phone call draws them to it. The two go into loggerheads with each other due to their differences and generation gap.

The first season premiered on Apple TV+ on January 10, 2024. Its final episode was aired on the streaming platform on February 21st.

What Happened In The Previous Season?

Season one of Criminal Record consisted of eight episodes. It follows the story of two detectives trying to unravel an old and unsolved murder case after a tip-off from an anonymous caller. June tries to put the pieces together to convince everyone that all the emergency phone calls have a connection.

Right after an incident, she joins the team of Hegarty which she uses to win over his confidence. At the same time, she also digs deep into the case of Errol Mathis. During her journey, she finds something important about the case.

However, things aren’t going well on her personal front as her son is having a difficult time in school. In the final episode, tension reaches its peak as both June and Hegarty have to finally join hands and work together as the public is angry over the case.

Has Criminal Record Been Renewed For A Second Season?

So far, the makers of Criminal Record have not confirmed the Season 2. But fans should not lose hope as one of the actors of the series, Cush Jumbo, spoke about the possibility of a follow-up season in one of her interviews. She said that there will be a second season.

However, we will have to wait for Apple TV+ to make an official confirmation on the same.

What Can We Expect From The Second Season?

Since the makers are yet to confirm a second season, we can only guess and conjecture as to what it might offer. The first season saw the main story reaching a satisfying conclusion. But there are little strings that are worth exploring in a follow-up season. It can be the reason behind the behavior of Hegarty during the first investigation.

He can also go on a faceoff with Lenker. Paul Rutman, who serves as the show’s executive producer, has said that they will have to see how the first season is received. Looking at the amazing reviews the first one has received, we won’t be surprised if a second one is greenlit in no time.

When it comes to a release date, there is no sure-shot answer as of now. But we can expect the second season to premiere in a year from now. This means it might be available to watch around the early days of 2025.

Peter Capaldi (who plays DCI Daniel Hegarty) and Cush Jumbo (portraying DS June Lenker) will surely return for the second season as they are the two main characters. Apart from them, we might also see people involved with the case of Adelaide Burrowes.

Cathy Tyson (Doris Mathis) and or Tom Moutchi (who played Errol Mathis) are two such names and either of them can make a return.
