The New Look is a biographical series centered on Christian Dior (played by Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn), the man behind the namesake fashion brand. It follows his journey as he lives in Paris right after World War II ends.

Apart from his struggle to start and sustain the brand, the series also chronicles his tussle with Coco Chanel (played by Juliette Binoche) who was yet another fashion designer and the person who started out Chanel.

Dior became a successful name in the realm of fashion thanks to its distinct designs. The New Look series of fashion lines celebrated feminity among women and was popular among them when it was launched back in the day. On October 24th, 1957, Dior passed away tragically due to a heart attack. He was only 52 years old around that time and was enjoying a vacation in Montecatini, Italy.

He died when he was playing with cards. Dior was in a relationship with Jacques Benita at the time of his death. He worked as a singer and was North African in ethnicity. He was nearly 30 years younger than Dior.

The first season was shot in Paris on real locations that were altered to give a feel of the 1940s and 1950s.
