Women in Blue tells the story of María, Valentina, Gabina, and Ángeles, who join the first female police force following the news of a ruthless serial killer, “The Undresser,” who only targets women.
As far as the pace of the series goes, more than the narrative, there’s been plenty of focus on the characters, and ultimately, maybe this series is more character-driven than anything else.
Nevertheless, we are invested because the serial killer is still out there, even though the police and government of Mexico City made everyone believe that he has been caught and also committed suicide. There’s still plenty more to uncover, and more of that happened in Women in Blue Episode 4, so keep reading!
Does the Women Catch The Undresser?
Women in Blue Episode 4 has a runtime of almost 60 minutes, which frankly appears to be a little daunting given the heavy themes that are explored in this series.
However, don’t let the number intimidate you because as the episode unfolds, you will find yourself a little more hooked to the Apple TV+ series than you previously were, all thanks to the opening scene.
The very first scene of the episode, even before the opening credits roll confirms the suspicion that women had in the previous episode. The Undresser is still out and about and has targeted yet another woman in his classic fashion.
However, this episode also reveals that the woman managed to survive because of a tumor in her neck, and her name is Alma Alvarez.
Meanwhile, María is still attempting to solve the case of who The Undresser is, something the entire precinct should be doing, so it is no surprise just how isolated María feels in the process.
Just when she feels like she has a lead, she is shut down by her superior. Misogyny, sexism, and where women stand in the hierarchy of the police force are all elements that are often focused on in all episodes of Women in Blue, and especially in this one!
Alma’s case is the focus of this episode, and María, Valentina, Gabina, and Ángeles come together to help understand things better because they know The Undresser was behind attempting to murder Alma, whose friend, Bertha, also becomes a pawn in Episode 4.
Although this episode was relatively slow, it did offer some momentum to the main plot, but it simply didn’t feel enough.
Women in Blue Episode 4 wasn’t the best episode of the series so far, but the women in the police force are slowly making their way closer to the serial killer at large while still trying to prove their worth at work and at home.
The themes of feminism and a character-driven narrative work better than the overall plot does sometimes, which can be a hit or a miss!
Conclusion
María, Valentina, Gabina, and Ángeles are the shining stars of this series and will continue to remain so in the coming episodes, so make sure you keep a lookout for our review of the next episode, next week!
