The main character of the story is Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov (played by Ewan McGregor) who is an aristocrat.

He goes to Paris and then returns back to Russia. However, Rostov’s life changed after the October Revolution took place in the country. He is thrown into a house arrest ordered by the tribunal belonging to a Bolshevik. The show chronicles his life in a hotel where he spends in an attic room for many decades.

Ben Vanstone and Nessah Muthy are the writers of the show while Sarah O’Gorman and Sam Miller have helmed A Gentleman in Moscow’s episodes. Ben, along with Tom Harper, Amor Towles, Sharon Hughff, Sam Miller, Xavier Marchand, Ewan McGregor and Pancho Mansfield are the executive producers of the show.

A Gentleman in Moscow Episode 1 is called A Master of Circumstance and it was released on March 29th, 2024. Ben Vanstone wrote the script while Sam Miller was the director. It starts in the year 1917 when a trial is taking place under the Bolsheviks.

Count Alexander Rostov, who is an aristocrat, is given a sentence of house arrest that will last his lifetime. He is sent to a hotel named Hotel Metropol in the city of Moscow.

The court promises to have all the luxuries and a decent room in the hotel in Rostov. But when he reaches the place, he is given an old quarter that is used by the servants. Rostov decides to eat at the fancy restaurant of the hotel as well as use all the services. The manager tells him that the government is keeping an eye on the hotel to find out which among the rich guests is a traitor to Russia and the party.

Rostov befriends a girl named Nina Kulikova (played by Alexa Goodall) who takes him through the passages in the hotel that are hidden from most staff and guests. His friend for many years Nikolai Petrov (Paul Ready) offers him to leave Russia but Rostov declines. The end of the episode shows the execution of Petrov after his plans are revealed to the government.

A Gentleman in Moscow Episode 2 is called An Invitation and has Sam Miller returning to the director’s job. The episode will introduce us to Anna Urbanova (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who arrives at the hotel. A 40-second-long promo of the video showcases her confusing Nina as Rostov’s daughter. We also see him sneaking into a meeting of resistance and talking to Osip Glebnikov about his grip on the communists.

Later, we see him getting into a real fight with one of the men who was in the meeting. The video ends with both of them wounded and bleeding. Overall the episode has many surprises and dramas in store.
