Bodkin Review: Netflix Series For Your Binge Needs

Bodkin Review

Created by Jez Scharf and directed by Nash Edgerton, Netflix’s latest series, Bodkin, is a treat for all. At some point in the last couple of years, several people made the switch from rom-coms and swooning over the knight in shining armor to putting their earphones on and listening to true-crime podcasts. Well, Bodkin capitalizes on that switch and does it perfectly, because this 7-episode series deserves a spot on your watchlist.

Several elements of Bodkin will make you watch one episode, and then another, and just one more until you reach the point where you’re aching for Netflix to renew the series and release another season. In the review, we will explore exactly what worked for Bodkin, and why we think you have the perfect series to stream this weekend.

Will Forte Steals the Show in Bodkin!

Most of you might recognize Will Forte from his time on Saturday Night Live, for which he has often received recognition, and rightfully so. Forte is an American actor and comedian, and both of these talents are reflected beautifully in Bodkin. Of course, The series does have a handful of cast members, and Siobhán Cullen and Robyn Cara, also deserve applause for their work, but Forte stole the show.

After SNL, this might just be Forte’s most important work, and hopefully, there will be accolades on the receiving end when the award season approaches. Steering the focus away from Forte and back to Bodkin, where an unlikely trio ends up together to solve a mystery of a lifetime…all the way in a small Irish town.

True crime has all the hype around it right now, and Gilbert, Dove, and Emmy are well aware of it as they make their way to Bodkin to uncover secrets that would best remain hidden. One of the main genres that Bodkin belongs to is dark comedy, and it does the perfect job of nailing the comedy. While Gilbert is American, the majority of the characters are British or Irish, and that’s exactly the kind of comedy you witness in Bodkin.

Bodkin isn’t just for the true crime fanatics, or those who love a good comedy, but this series with 7 episodes, truly encompasses a little bit of everything, and that frankly feels like an understatement this fresh out of watching the series. Maybe once the fog settles Bodkin might not seem as perfect, but we highly doubt that will be the case.

This Netflix series is often witty, always interesting, and seldom boring. The contrast between the characters also stands out as one of the key elements that serve as a driving force for the success of this series. There’s never a dull moment! If you thought several genres couldn’t exist under one roof, especially with comedy in the mix, Bodkin is here to prove you wrong.
