Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver Review: 122-Minute Long Snoozefest

Zack Synder’s contribution to cinema, especially the science-fiction and superhero genre has been an important one, and the kind that people will remember for years to come. However, it is worrisome that Synder’s filmography might be washed away completely by Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (and also the first part, with 21% on Rotten Tomatoes).

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver has officially released on Netflix with a runtime of just over two hours, which felt like far too many hours. If you were hoping that Part Two would be superior to the first part, and were looking forward to it, you might have to lower your expectations, despite the existing bar set fairly low. In this spoiler-free review, we will share our thoughts on Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver!

Zack Synder’s Latest Rebel Moon Movie Does…Nothing.

Here’s the thing about Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver and why it did not work for us, and possibly several others who might tune into Netflix and watch this movie. This latest movie feels like a cumulation of every other popular sci-fi movie.

By the looks of it, there was some beg, borrow, and steal done to complete Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver because you can see slivers of franchises like Star Wars, Avatar, and even Marvel from time to time.

However, despite Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver feeling like a weird mix of everything, it simply doesn’t work. More importantly, instead of this movie presenting itself as a sequel, it feels like a really long third half that was missing from the first part.

Apart from a few good shots and subpar acting (which relied completely on the not-so-well-written script), Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver had nothing to offer. Towards the end of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, there was a particular where everything was destroyed and up in flames…and funnily enough, that is exactly what the movie felt like as a whole.

Between Sofia Boutella’s Kora, Anthony Hopkins’ Jimmy, Djimon Hounsou’s Titus, and Ed Skrein’s Atticus, no one could really save the Rebel Moon franchise from a crash and burn. Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver also had several action sequences, probably twice as many as the first part, which too were poorly choreographed and the action simply felt shabby at several points of the movie.

The plot of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver moved forward, but the story as a whole felt like stacks of scenes just put together without much thought given to them. Maybe it’s time for Zack Synder to call it a day without tarnishing his well-deserved filmography.

Conclusion

If you have invested your time watching the first part, chances are you will stream Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver too, however, if you want to save two hours of your time, we would recommend skipping it. Instead, you can watch some international movies like Love, Divided, and A Journey on Netflix!
